Smooth Heels
SMOOTH HEELS
Wearing open heeled sandals and flip flops can help contribute to hard and rough skin forming on the heels of your feet. To help battle this little annoyance. Cream you feet just before you get into bed.
Your skin relaxes and repairs better whilst you rest, so use up any old creams that you may have been bought for presents. Even if they are hand or face creams use them on your feet. Apply liberally and massage in well.
Silky smooth feet won’t be far away.
Uses for Chamomile
LOVELY CHAMOMILE
This is such a lovely plant. It can help us in so many ways. Most of us know that it comes in the form of a tea to help us relax, but its also great to help ease indigestion too. If your not to keen on the taste then add a little honey to sweeten. Did you know its also great for kids? Especially if they are not sleeping well due to teething or growing pains. Just make the tea slightly weaker.
Its fabulous for the skin, in helping to promote healing.
PUFFY EYES
You can use the used t-bags to help reduce puffy eyes. Just make yourself a nice cup of chamomile tea, run yourself a bath, whilst waiting for the bath to draw place the used t-bags in the fridge. Once the bath is ready then relax in the bubbles with the chamomile bags over your eyes.
FAIR HAIR
Place a handful of dried chamomile flower heads in a jug of boiling water and let it stew, once cooled to the touch remove the flower heads and use it as a hair rinse, it will help lighten your hair. Use the rinse several times in one wash.
A bright, cheerful plant that also saves you money. Enjoy
Take the ‘OUCH’ out of waxing
Ok so we’ve all heard the stories of how painful waxing is. But it doesn’t have to be that bad.
Yes you will feel a slight sting or tingle, maybe a little more uncomfortable if its your first time, especially in the bikini area. But whatever sensation you feel it really will be short lived. I’m talking seconds here!
So lets go through what is actually involved in the waxing (hair removal ) process here at Fresh Therapies.
Firstly questions will be asked during a consultation to make sure you are suitable to receive the treatment. No skin conditions, varicose veins and a few others.
Then the treatment can begin. Its really quite simple.
You remove your clothing from the area being waxed, while you are behind a screen. If your having a bikini wax a pair of disposable underwear will be provided. No bearing all, your modesty is kept, its more hygienic too.
Once you are comfortable on the couch, lying under a towel the area to be worked on is cleansed. Here at Fresh Therapies I use warm water only, it just helps to remove any lotions that may have been put on the skin earlier in the day, such as moisturisers, deodorants etc, as these can prevent the wax from gripping the hair. The area is then dusted with cornflour (no chemical talc used here) only natural products.
The cornflour helps absorb any residue left in the area and also puts a fine barrier to prevent the wax from sticking to the skin. It also helps show up the finest of hairs, making sure none are missed.
I use a roller wax system except for the bikini area where I use the good old pot and spatula method.
The wax roller method is much quicker, less messy and can help it be less painful, as it applies the correct amount of wax each and every time.
I always talk to the client during the treatment, helping to take their mind off things and helping them to relax. If the client is relaxed its less painful.
The client is always asked to check the area before dressing to make sure they are completely happy.
Then the area will be smoothed with organic Aloe Vera gel. This helps cool the skin and speed up the healing process and reduce redness.
Aftercare advice is given with a friendly smile.
That’s it, its all over, it wasn’t that bad was it?
But please follow the below guidelines to help you get the best results from your waxing treatments where ever you go.
Do’s & Don’ts of waxing
DO
- Try to wear loose clothing around the area to be treated
- Try to relax during the treatment. The more you tense the more painful it can be
- Deep breathing is better than holding your breath
- Exfoliate at least 48 hours before your treatment
- Keep your skin moisturised in between treatments, it helps prevent ingrowing hairs
- Exfoliate every 2-3 days in between treatments this helps prevent ingrowing hairs too
- Keep your treatments regular, this will actually cause you less pain.
Don’t
- Use any heat treatments 24 hours before or after a treatment such as sauna, sunbeds, steamroom or sunshine.
- Go swimming, into the gym or anything that will make you sweat, it can make the skin sting, you need to let the skin rest and heal.
- Use any highly perfumes products 24 hours after treatment, bath oils, lotions, deodorants etc.
- Have showers or baths that are too hot, keep the temperature luke warm for 24 hours.
- Have a treatment just before your period as you can be a little more sensitive in any area.
So make sure you get the best out of your treatment, don’t be afraid you’ll be fine. Honestly once you’ve started you won’t go back to the razor or cream.

Happy New Year
The new year is under way and so is the freezing cold weather. The cold weather can be very cruel to our skin especially drying on the face and hands. Cold winds can deplete the natural moisture from hands, causing them to become dehydrated, dry and even cracked, especially on the knuckle area. For this reason alone we should be using moisturiser at every chance we get.
The face has the challenging cold temperature each day, causing dryness and chapped lips, so the same is for this area. Moisturise well and keep wrapped up.
Wear your gloves and pull your scarf around nice and snug.
Take care and be safe in these trying weather conditions.
